Tarifa, Spain

September 1 - 5, 2010

Fluye como la Luz (flow like the light)Thai Yoga Massage Retreat

Fluidity, rhythm, openness, balance, deep listening, compassionate connection, appreciative joy; these elements form the foundation of Thai Yoga Massage. On the Costa de la Luz, we will find inspiration for our practice in the wind, the waves, the sun, and the rich manifestations of a complex culture drenched in passion and mystery.

Our days will begin on the rooftop of Casa Luna with a nourishing meditation and yoga practice designed to prepare our bodies and minds for an in-depth exploration of traditional Thai Yoga Massage sequences. Afternoon siestas will be followed by opportunities to review and practice new Thai Yoga Massage techniques. Evenings will be open for participants to sample the local tapas, go dancing, and enjoy all that Tarifa has to offer.

location

Tarifa is a very special and dynamic place. This is where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean and Europe meets Africa. Tarifa is well known as a Mecca for sports enthusiasts. Windsurfing and kitesurfing are Tarifa's most popular activities, but rock climbing, horseriding, mountain biking, scuba diving and surfing are also popular options.

Tarifa also offers whale and dolphin excursions, bird watching, and a Moorish castle, and 15km away in Bolonia are some extremely well preserved Roman ruins.

If this is not enough, a 35-minute jet ferry ride brings you to the port of Tangier in Morocco. Enjoy the old architecture or sit in one of Tangier's fantastic coffee shops and soak it all up. From the port, a two-hour taxi tour (Kings Palace, Cape Spartan, Hercules' Cave) will set you back about 40 euros, but always haggle if only for the fun!

Tarifa has its own microclimate. This means that it's nearly always hot and sunny in September.

Tarifa Spain Beach Feria Tarifa Spain

The first weekend in September is a fixed date on Tarifa's calendar for the annual Feria (fair). This event represents the most important period of the cultural calendar in Tarifa.

Feria officially begins when hundreds of horsemen escort the patron saint of Tarifa (the virgin of light) from a nearby shrine into the center of Tarifa.

Locals set up pavilions at the fair yard and invite you to eat, drink, and dance with them all night long. The streets are filled with people crying out loud: "Viva la virgin de la Luz!" (Long live the virgin of light!). If you have the opportunity, stay in Tarifa for an extra day or two so that you can enjoy this event!

traveler or tourist

Do you want to be a Traveler or a Tourist?

Motivation: A Traveler is motivated by an insatiable curiosity and endless fascination with the world in which she finds herself a citizen. She delights in questioning old assumptions, testing new hypotheses, and exploring opposing perspectives on her quest to dissolve boundaries and cultivate an expanded and integrated view of herself and her life´s purpose.

Expectation: A Traveler enjoys planning and preparing for a journey, but he is wise enough to expect the unexpected and he looks forward to embracing the unknown.

Reaction: A Traveler intuitively knows how to surrender to the flow of life - riding its waves with abundant laughter and grace. She receives unforeseen challenges like gifts, recognizing feelings of disorientation and frustration as invitations to expand and evolve.

Interaction: A Traveler respectfully immerses himself in a new culture, a new environment. His mind and heart remain open as he engages in new activities, learns new skills, and gains new perspectives. Whether observing, or participating in dialogue, he practices patience, non-judgment and compassion.

Contribution: A Traveler understands that the amount of joy that she experiences during her journey is a reflection of the joy she generates in her wake. This wisdom guides her to look for and create opportunities to connect deeply with the local people and generously offer her help and a piece of her heart.

Evolution: A Traveler understands that his journey doesn't end when he returns "home". He practices his craft - the art of living a fully integrated life - wherever he is!
